SEPTEMBER: SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINE OF CONFESSION

SEPTEMBER: Spiritual discipline of CONFESSION

“Confession is a difficult discipline for us because we all too often view the believing community as a fellowship of saints before we see it as a fellowship of sinners” – Richard Foster

This month in The Good Life, we are leaning into the spiritual discipline of Confession. Confession is used in two different contexts. One is the confession of sins and the other is confessing statements of a faith in which you profess. Together, we will explore why this is important for us as followers of Jesus to make daily confessions.

Below you’ll find this month’s teaching video, as well as other resources to help you practice the discipline of Confession.

3 Steps oN PracticING CONFESSION

    1. Find a trusted brother or sister.
Find someone that you trust and feel comfortable with sharing. We have to accept that there are psychological and spiritual burdens if we don’t practice confessing with a trusted friend.

    2. Get good at telling yourself: this is the value of accountability.
Telling on ourselves actually helps us avoid sin because we realize that we can overcome our struggles in community!

    3. Confess the goodness of God.
Take time out of your day to confess something good about God. It can be about His wisdom, His sovereignty, His perfect plan to restore humanity. We have also linked the Apostles Creed below. Take time to confess these statements that the early church have held for many centuries.
